This session is aimed at anyone seeking general information on maintaining good sexual health and those who would like to be able to signpost others to appropriate services and support.  Whether you are interested from a personal, professional or parenting point of view, you will be welcome to attend.

The Jack Trial, QUB

Dr Gough and Dr McShane will discuss the Jack Trial - a study aimed at trialling a Relationship and Sexuality Education (RSE) teacher- delivered resource about young men and unintended teenage pregnancy (UTP) called ‘If I were Jack’ in post primary schools in Northern Ireland.  It is designed to reduce UTP by encouraging teenagers to decrease sexual risk-taking behaviour that might result in unintended pregnancy either by delaying sexual intercourse or by consistently using contraception in sexual relationships.

Arlene will be talking about sexual health issues which are affecting young people today, from the negative influence of internet porn, and issues of consent to problems accessing services.  Arlene will also give advice on how to handle those difficult conversations with young people about sexual health

‘Chem sex’ means using drugs as part of your sex life, and it’s most common among gay and bi men.  People say taking these drugs make them feel less inhibited and increases pleasure, however they can also lead to greater risk taking and cause harm.  The PSNI will discuss the increasing prevalence of chem sex in Northern Ireland.
