Bowel Cancer Awareness Month 2022

Bowel Cancer UK are hosting an online awareness session in conjunction with NICS WELL on Thursday 21st April, available for all NICS staff.

Come along to a virtual talk on bowel cancer awareness, hosted by the charity Bowel Cancer UK.

What will be in the talk?

In around 30-minutes, a volunteer speaker will highlight the following key awareness messages:

  • Signs and symptoms - learn the most common symptoms of bowel cancer
  • Risks - gain an awareness of the risk factors associated with bowel cancer
  • Bowel Screening - learn about the NHS bowel screening programme and the importance of taking part

The speaker will also be happy to answer any questions you might have. Very often, they have had personal experience of bowel cancer, and therefore have a great deal of knowledge and wisdom to share.

Why building awareness is important

Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in Northern Ireland and the second biggest cancer killer. Every year more than 1,100 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer in Northern Ireland and more than 450 people die from the disease.

However, it doesn’t have to be this way, as bowel cancer is treatable and curable, especially when caught early. That’s why we’re dedicated to raising awareness through our volunteer-led awareness programme.
