“Men don’t talk face to face, they talk shoulder to shoulder.”

In this session, you will hear from the Community Development Lead of Groundwork NI, a charity which supports all Men’s Sheds across Northern Ireland.

Join this session to hear about the impact of Men Sheds, hear personal testimonials and learn about health issues facing men in Northern Ireland.

Background

Originating from Australia in the 90’s, the first Men’s shed in Ireland opened in early 2009. There are currently around 80 Men’s Sheds in Northern Ireland, with around 400 on the island of Ireland.

Men Sheds provide a renewed sense of purpose for the members by providing a safe space where men can open up and connect with others. They are vital community organisations, and they have a massive impact on the health and wellbeing of individual members as well as the communities in which they reside.

They played a vital role in allowing individuals to reconnect with others and instilling a sense of identity and belonging to carry them through even in the midst of a global pandemic.
